2-Alarm Fire Burns 2 Oakland Homes, Displaces 18 Residents
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A raging two-alarm fire destroyed one Oakland home and seriously damaged another, displacing 18 residents Wednesday morning.
The fire started n 47th and Melrose avenues around 3:40 a.m.
Flames engulfed one home and quickly spread to another next door, according to Oakland fire Battalion Chief Lisa Baker.
It took firefighters more than an hour to get the flames under control. Firefighters were able to put the fire out by about 4:50 a.m., while the second fire was controlled at 5:57 a.m. Baker said.
The fire fight was complicated by a downed power line which PG&E to shut off power in the area. Power is now restored.
Of the 18 people displaced, eight are children who lived in one of the homes, Baker said. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced
residents.
No one was injured by the fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
