16 People Report Pain After Girl Uses Pepper-Spray Inside San Francisco Mall

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police and fire responded to the Stonestown Galleria mall in San Francisco Monday night for a reported incident involving pepper spray.

At 8:06 p.m., multiple people reported a pepper spray or a similar chemical being released inside the mall, located at 3251 20th Ave., police said.

At least 16 people complained of some kind pain and were treated at the scene. Some had to have their eyes washed out. One person was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is in stable condition, fire officials said.

San Francisco police Captain Mark Osuna said a female juvenile went into a Forever 21 store at the mall and sprayed pepper spray into the air and at "nobody specifically."

He said she ran out of the store and was followed by other juveniles.

The mall was not evacuated, but several stores did close.

Police have not apprehended anyone in connection with the incident.
