$15 Minimum Wage, Expanded Benefits Approved For Facebook Contractors
MENLO PARK (CBS SF) – Facebook is implementing a new set of standards on benefits for contractors and vendors who support the Menlo Park-based company.
In a blog post, Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said this includes a $15 minimum wage, a minimum of 15 paid days off for holidays, sick time and vacation and for those workers who don't receive paid parental leave, a $4,000 new child benefit for new parents.
"This will give both women and men the flexibility to take paid parental leave, an important step for stronger families and healthier children," she wrote.
Sandberg said they have been working on the changes for months, and the company has already put these standards in place for some large support teams at its Menlo Park headquarters, such as cooks, janitors and security guards.
The goal is to implement the new standards to a broader set of vendors by the end of the year.
Sandberg said she feels this "is the right thing to do for our business and our community" and said women would particularly benefit, as they comprise about two-thirds of minimum wage workers in the U.S.
