130 Bikes Stolen In Marin County Theft Ring Available For Viewing
MARIN COUNTY (CBS SF) -- The Marin County Sheriff's Office is informing residents that photos of bicycles that were stolen by a ring throughout the county are available for viewing at marinij.com.
Bike owners must provide a serial number or specific identifiable custom marking other than factory decals on the bike frame itself.
The sheriff's office arrested Rebecca Hammett, 50, of Kentfield Tuesday for allegedly receiving stolen bicycles from thieves in the major bicycle theft ring.
Hammett was scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Marin County Superior Court. She is being held under $30,000 bail.
The sheriff's office and San Rafael police served search warrants Tuesday at a residence in the 1100 block of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in Kentfield, at a storage facility on Industrial Way in Greenbrae and at a Corte Madera motor home, sheriff's Lt. Jamie Scardina said.
More than 130 bicycles, including dozens of high-end mountain and road bikes, and bicycle frames were recovered, Scardina said.
The sheriff's office has a free bicycle registry program with a database of bicycles that helps recover stolen bikes.
Bicycles may be registered at http://www.marinsheriff.org. under the Resources tab.
