12 Vehicles Involved In Crash On I-880 Ramp To Bay Bridge

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Only minor injuries were reported Friday morning in a collision involving 12 vehicles on the northbound Interstate Highway 880 connector to the westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge in Oakland, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

One person was trapped in the collision that involved a truck on top of another vehicle and two box trucks, CHP officer Eric Anderson said.

All lanes of the connector opened at 11:30 a.m., CHP officials said.

The first report of the collision came in at 9:35 a.m. and a traffic alert was issued at 9:53 a.m., Anderson said.

Friday morning's crash was the second major incident impacting commuters who travel on the Bay Bridge from the East Bay. Shortly before 4:00 a.m., a drywall spill on Westbound Interstate 80 at Fremont Street in San Francisco led to a massive traffic jam on the Bay Bridge that extended to the Toll Plaza.
