1 Dead, 2 Hurt When Car Crashes Into Tree In South San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- One person died and two others were injured when the vehicle their vehicle struck a tree in South San Jose Monday morning.

Around 3:55 a.m., officers responded to a crash happening near Almaden Expressway and Redmond Avenue, according to police.

When officers arrived, officers found a dark-colored pick up truck with major damage, police said.

One of the vehicle's occupants was able to get out of the truck, while two others remained trapped inside. Emergency crews arrived removed the two occupants, according to police.

One of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other occupants were taken to the hospital to treat their injuries, police said.

After conducting a preliminary investigation, officers determined the truck left the roadway and struck a tree.

The southbound lanes of Almaden Expressway between Redmond and Camden avenues are closed at this time. Police did not say when the road would reopen.
