6 Displaced, Dog Killed In San Leandro Fire
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- Six people were displaced and a dog killed in a one-alarm blaze at a two-story duplex in San Leandro Friday morning, an Alameda County fire spokeswoman said.
Crews responded to a report of a fire at a duplex in the 2300 block of Fairway Drive, near Doolittle Drive, at about 4:25 a.m., fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
A downstairs neighbor was able to alert residents about the fire and was credited with helping getting everyone out safely, according to the residents.
When crews arrived, the fire was fully involved on the first and second floors of the building, Knowles said.
All the residents at the two-unit structure were out by the time crews arrived.
Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze by 5:20 a.m., according to officials.
No residents were injured in the blaze but a yellow labrador was killed in the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation, Knowles said.
The American Red Cross is assisting the residents with temporary housing.
