Woman, 68, Dies In Rollover Crash On Placer County Highway

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — An elderly woman died from her injuries following a rollover crash on the highway in Placer County.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 9 a.m. on Friday on southbound Highway 49 near Fresh Air Lane.

The victim was 68-years-old from Auburn, driving a 2000 Honda Accord.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash. CHP said the driver in the Honda Accord was turning left onto southbound Highway 49 from a private road when she was hit by a KIA Sportage SUV that was driving northbound. The KIA hit the Honda on its left side, overturning and landing on its roof in the middle of the road.

Both drivers were extricated and taken to Sutter Roseville. The driver of the KIA, 78-year-old Janice Tate from Auburn, sustained only minor injuries.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Traffic was delayed in the area for about an hour.

No further details have been released at this time.
