Young woman dies after being struck by vehicle while on scooter in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO – A young woman hospitalized after she was hit by a vehicle while riding a scooter in Sacramento on Wednesday night has died, police said.

The call came in around 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and Cosumnes River Boulevard.

The woman, an 18-year-old, was in critical condition, police said. Early Thursday morning, police revealed that the woman had died. She has been identified by the coroner as Kaylee Xiong.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police said DUI is not suspected.

"It's a shared responsibility, both our motorists and our bicyclists, pedestrians, scooterists," said Anthony Gamble with the Sacramento Police Department. "You have to be aware of what's going on around you, and it's truly a shared responsibility. We want to take care of each other."

The road was closed through late Wednesday night. It's unknown what led up to the collision.

A UC Davis resident physician was killed after she was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in east Sacramento last week.
