Mom of 6 found dead at Sacramento hospital last summer died of heart disease, coroner says
SACRAMENTO — More than a year after a woman was found dead in the garage of a Sacramento hospital, a coroner has determined that she died due to heart disease.
Jaime Reed, a mother of 6, was found dead in the garage of Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento on July 24, 2023. Her car was on the third floor, but her body was on the first floor.
An autopsy and toxicology report was performed in early August 2023, but it wasn't until October 5 that authorities said the autopsy showed there was no criminal aspect to Reed's death. That same day, Sacramento police told CBS Sacramento that the results of the toxicology report were still pending and could take several months to receive.
CBS Sacramento contacted the Sacramento County Coroner's Office multiple times since then for new details. On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the coroner's office said it was determined that Reed's cause of death was probable sudden cardiac death due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
The month after her death, Reed's family held a vigil outside of the hospital and said she had been working there since January 2023.
