Woman Accused Of Starting Roseville Fire That Burned 6 Mobile Homes Appearing In Court Monday

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – The woman accused of starting the destructive fire that burned six mobile homes in a Rural Roseville community last week is being arraigned Monday.

Melanie Orantes, 29, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of arson for the fire near PFE and Walerga Roads, according to Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant.

The fire started at around 5 p.m. Friday and quickly spread to the Sabre City mobile home park, leaving at least one senior without a home.

Dry conditions in the area complicated firefighting efforts, crews noted at the scene.

Berlant said Orantes was arrested in the area of the fire.

Investigators have not commented on how Orantes set the fire. Residents reported seeing a woman walking in the field who flicked a cigarette. Orantes is being held at Placer County Jail on a charge of arson, with bail set at $150,000.
