Spring Storm Dumps Half-Foot Of Snow In Reno

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A winter storm warning remains in effect until early Wednesday for much of north-central and northeast Nevada ahead of a weather system that dumped more than a half-foot of heavy snow around Reno and Sparks the day after Easter.

The warning in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday includes Battle Mountain, Elko, Carlin and Wells, along with parts of Lander, Eureka and Elko counties stretching to the Utah line.

Between a half-foot and 12 inches of snow and blowing snow is forecast in the valleys with as much as 20 inches of snow in the mountains.

Snow fell at a rate of about one inch per hour in the Reno-Sparks area early Monday, triggering dozens of fender benders and snarling slippery roads during the morning commute.
