Whatever Happened To The Roseville Galleria Arsonist?

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — On Oct. 21, 2010, one of the most damaging fires Placer County had ever seen started with an attempted suicide inside the Roseville Galleria.

With a large portion of the mall in flames, shoppers and workers ran for their lives.

The young man at the center of it, Alexander Piggee, would later tell CBS13 during a phone interview that he thought it was the perfect way to end his life—set fire inside the mall and stay inside while everyone else ran out.

His failed suicide attempt didn't physically harm anyone, but it did cause $55 million worth of damage, and forced 44 stores to close temporarily.

Four years later, whatever happened to the Roseville Galleria arsonist?

He's doing hard time at Lompoc Correctional Institution, a federal prison. Even though prosecutors asked the judge to give Piggee 10 years for his guilty plea, the judge brought down the hammer, calling the 23-year-old suspect a threat to public safety and giving him 15 years.

The case became a federal case, because he admitted to setting a smaller fire on the same day in Sacramento County.

Piggee is scheduled to be released on Nov. 15, 2023 at the age of 36. He has no chance of parole.
