Police: Threats of violence against West Park High not credible

ROSEVILLE - Roseville police say that threats of violence against West Park High Thursday have been deemed not credible and students have been released. 

Police didn't provide details about the threats, including who made them or what exactly was posted.

The school was placed on lockdown due to unspecified threats of violence made on social media. Authorities say the incident happened during the passing period -- between the first and second periods of the day. When the threat came out and police were notified, some students walked away from campus. The remaining students were placed on lockdown and their parents were told not to come to the school to get them. However, later on, the school issued a statement telling parents that if they wanted to get their kids, could they had to work with school administration to coordinate the pick-up. 

They also asked parents to notify them if their child left campus without checking out. At around 11 a.m., there were still several hundred parents lined up to get their children.

On Thursday morning, West Park High principal Becky House issued a message that read:

"Earlier this morning we were informed of a post on social media alleging violence on the school campus at 12:30 today

While Roseville Police Department is investigating, increased police presence are being added to the campus. At this point, the source and origination of the posts is unknown but we are taking all threats seriously.

"Please know that we are working as diligently as possible to locate the originator of the message and assure that the campus is secure. We ask parents not to come to the campus. As details become available, I will be sure to send follow updates."

The school district said that no other schools in the district were under a similar lockdown.
