Grass fire prompts dozens of homes to evacuate in Sacramento County

Grass fire contained after forcing evacuations in Sacramento County

SACRAMENTO COUNTY – Dozens of homes were evacuated after a grass fire burned in the Wilton area of Sacramento County on Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's office said. 

The Cosumnes Fire Department said the grass fire was threatening structures near Walmort Road and Badger Creek Lane.

By 2:30 p.m., Sacramento Metro Fire officials announced that the forward progress of the fire had been stopped at 45 acres. 

About 20-30 people in total were evacuated and 10 properties were affected, officials said. No homes were damaged or lost, but two outbuildings were destroyed.  

Units from the Herald Fire Department and Sacramento Metro Fire were also at the scene. 

It's also unknown how the fire started.
