VIDEO: CHP Helicopter Rescues Injured Hiker In Nevada County

NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) – An injured hiker had to be rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter from the Emerald Pools area.

CHP says they were called to the scene Friday night by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office to help with the search for a missing hiker. The hiker, 22-year-old Reno resident Anthony Rissone, apparently got separated from his friends and injured his knee to the point where he couldn't walk.

Using night vision goggles and their infrared camera, the helicopter crew spotted Rissone on a rock near the river. However, the crew had to tell Rissone that he would need to spend the night due to the terrain making it difficult to land.

Early Saturday morning, once the sun was up, the helicopter returned and a hoist rescue was coordinated. Rissone was lifted up into the chopper and flown away.

Rissone was later dropped off at a landing zone in the area taken by ambulance to Tahoe Forest Hospital. He is expected to be OK.
