Union Pacific Train Hits Pickup Near Wheatland

YUBA COUNTY (CBS13) – A driver has died after his pickup truck was hit by a Union Pacific train near Wheatland late Friday morning.

The collision happened on a private driveway just south of Dairy Road, off of Highway 65, around 11:42 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.  Authorities say that, for unknown reasons, the truck turned on the roadway at the same time of as a Union Pacific train and the two collided

Hit on the front driver's side, the truck eventually came to a rest in a ditch east of the railroad track on its wheels.

Authorities say that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

About 10 Union Pacific employees were on the three-car train at the time. No one on the train was hurt, CHP says.
