UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi Will Remain On Campus After Resignation
DAVIS (CBS13) — Despite UC chancellor Linda Katehi's resignation Tuesday, she will not be leaving the UC Davis campus.
Officials with the university say she will remain a member of the faculty.
In a statement released Tuesday by UC President Janet Napolitano, she says the investigation found "numerous instances where Katehi was not candid either with me, the press, or the public. That she exercised poor judgement and violated multiple university policies."
The violations include nepotism, alleged misuse of student fees and communication between Katehi and Napolitano regarding Katehi's knowledge of social media contracts for the campus.
Katehi claims the investigation that was launched in April confirmed she did not violate any UC policies or laws.
Katehi went on to say she never intended to mislead anyone.
According to Napolitano, Katehi will be returning to campus as a tenured faculty member.
One student protested the decision, saying "with all the financial reasons she was involved in last year I know that affected a lot of students, so her having any involvement as a mentor or a professor on campus shouldn't take place."
Katehi was placed on leave and investigated in April, and on Tuesday Katehi confirmed she will be teaching in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
She says "I believe in the vision of UC Davis and I look forward to doing my best to support the campus now and in the future."
According to President Napolitano, University officials are now beginning a nationwide search for a new chancellor.
The interim chancellor will continue in his role.
