UC Davis Basketball Toppled By UCSB On National Television
DAVIS (AP) — Michael Bryson finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, and Zalmico Harmon added 11 points and six assists as UC Santa Barbara topped UC Davis 67-54 on Saturday night.
The game was televised on ESPN2, marking the second time in recent memory that UC Davis men's basketball was in the national spotlight.
The Gauchos (19-8, 10-4 Big West) shot 44.2 percent from the field and dominated the rebounding battle 43-20. Alan Williams had 10 boards to go with eight points.
UC Davis (9-20, 4-10) was led by Corey Hawkins, making 10 of 15 free throws to total 16 points.
UCSB jumped out to an early 9-0 lead as Bryson dunked and Mitch Brewe hit a 3-pointer. UC Davis pulled within five, but two quick baskets by UCSB put them up 32-23 at the half.
UCSB opened the second half with an 11-2 run capped by a Bryson 3-pointer to go up 43-25, and the Aggies couldn't pull closer than eight the rest of the way.
Both teams were battling for a Big West playoff seed in Anaheim.
