U.S. Forest Service Firefighter Seriously Burned While Fighting Lowell Fire

ALTA (CBS13) – Four firefighters battling the Lowell Fire in Nevada County are recovering after being burned Sunday.

Three of those firefighters are expected to be released Sunday night.

The fourth suffered more serious burns to their limbs and will stay overnight at UC Davis Medical Center.

Cal Fire reports that firefighter's wounds are not life-threatening.

All the firefighters were on Chicago Park Powerhouse Road when fire overran them at about 5 p.m.

Two of the firefighters work for Cal Fire. The two other, including the firefighter with more serious burns, are with the U.S. Forest Service.

Cal Fire is investigating the incident. The Lowell Fire has burned about 1,500 acres as of Sunday night and is up to 15 percent containment.
