Twin Newborn Girls Found Dead Outside San Diego-Area Home

FALLBROOK, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in San Diego County say newborn twin girls were found dead wrapped in a towel in front of a home.

The county's medical examiner said in a statement Monday that the bodies were found still attached to the placenta, but it's not clear whether they were stillborn or died after birth.

The homeowner found the babies Friday and called 911.

Deputies and paramedics responded and declared the girls dead at the scene.

The coroner says it's not clear when the babies died and relatives have not been found.

Sheriff's homicide Lt. John Maryon tells U-T San Diego that investigators were exploring several tips received since the discovery.

The homeowner told police he first thought the babies were dolls wrapped in a blanket.
