Steven Chueng, Trump's pick for White House communications director, grew up in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — From Sacramento's John F. Kennedy High School to the White House.

Steven Chueng, President-elect Donald Trump's pick to be the next White House communications director, grew up in Sacramento.

A Kennedy High School yearbook from the class of 2000 shows Chueng's senior portrait, with him dressed in a tuxedo. His senior quote was:

"Well, well, well...If it isn't the Quintessential stud muffin. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, I am the Greatest Masterpiece ever to grace God's green earth."

Cheung is now known for colorful social media posts, often fired at political foes. He wrote one aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris during the campaign that said: "She ain't about this life. She's all brakes no gas."

The communications director position did have a high turnover under the first Trump administration. Anthony Scaramucci lasted just 11 days.

"I think you have to understand something. There were probably one or two people that wanted me in that job — the president was one of them — and there were 200 people that didn't want me in that job, and so, you know Washington as well as I know Washington. The odds were stacked against me," Scaramucci said in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos following his termination.

Now, Cheung is taking his turn at the top of his field, crafting communications at the White House.

Cheung attended Sacramento State after graduating from Kennedy High. He then started his career in California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration.
