Between California's drought and a bark beetle infestation, millions of trees in the Sierra have died, leaving plenty of fuel for a fire to take off. Recent cool conditions have helped the firefight, but they aren't expect to last.
Fall is typically the worst of the California fire season, when high pressure over the Pacific and low pressure in the Northwest creates a dry north wind that fans the flames.
Five structures are threatened by the fire, though it's progressing away from them.
No evacuations or road closures are in effect.
