Traffic Stopped On Highway 99 Near Mack Road Due To Police Activity

8:45 P.M. UPDATE: Highway 99 remains closed, according to CHP, as crisis negotiations continued to communicate with the suicidal individual.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is on standby to care for the individual once he comes down from the on-ramp.
The incident has affected traffic all afternoon and into the night, impacting surface streets as well as Interstate 5, which runs parallel to Highway 99. CHP deployed officers top the surface streets to help alleviate traffic.
The incident was originally reported at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and officers arrived on the scene at 2:45 p.m. Officers closed down traffic by 3:05 p.m.
6:50 P.M. UPDATE: CHP South Sacramento confirmed Highway 99 remains closed Thursday evening in both directions "due to a suicidal individual on the East Stockton Boulevard on-ramp to southbound State Route 99."
Members of the Crisis Intervention Team's (CIT) from the California Highway Patrol, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, and the Sacramento Police Department continue to negotiate with the subject and hope to resolve the incident without injury to anyone on scene.
Detours are available at the following locations:
Northbound State Route 99 has a hard closure just south of Calvine Road. All traffic is being diverted onto Calvine Road.
Southbound State Route 99 has a hard closure just north of Mack Road. All traffic is being diverted onto Mack Road.
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Traffic has halted on both sides of Highway 99 near Mack Road due to police activity and reports of a suicidal person.
CHP said crisis negotiators are en route to help the person in distress. Officers said the incident has lasted about three hours so far. They are asking people to avoid the area.
According to Caltrans, the highway is closed at the Stockton Boulevard overcrossing due to police activity. Officials are diverting traffic in South Sacramento on northbound Hwy 99 at Calvine Road and southbound at Mack Road.
There is no estimated time of reopening. Take alternate routes if possible.
