Tracy School Locked Down After Teen Allegedly Fires Gun In Home, Runs Onto Campus
TRACY (CBS13) — A local school was on lockdown and a family was barricaded inside their home after police say a teen with a gun started firing shots in Tracy.
It all started on Wednesday morning at a home along Shelborne Drive and forced authorities to place nearby Monticello Elementary School on lockdown.
Parents at the school were frightened to find out a suspect running from police ran onto their children's campus.
Tracy Police say it all started as a domestic disturbance at a home just behind the school. A teen suspect allegedly became violent and a family member barricaded in a bedroom called 911. That's when the teen allegedly fired a gun in the home, but didn't hit anyone.
School officials say as police descended on the area, the suspect ran across the field at the school and children rushed inside classrooms.
"They actually asked our fourth grade students who were in a portable, or series of portables near where the action was happening, to actually be moved," said Superintendent Jim Bridges.
Tracy police would eventually catch up with the suspect, who was unarmed at that point.
"We feel we reacted swiftly in the situation with the police's help," Bridges said.
The juvenile suspect has not been identified, and it's not clear what charges he will face.
