You do need a sno park permit, either a day pass or a season permit, but they are inexpensive and available at multiple places. From the sno park, you have wonderful opportunities for snowshoeing, just enjoying the high country snow or cross country skiing. You can make your way to Echo Lakes, keeping in mind that a couple of spots are a bit steep if you are on skis, but the payoff is stunning.
