Toddler In Surgery After Being Stabbed In The Face

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – A 2-year-old boy is in surgery after he was stabbed in the face Friday morning.

The incident happened along the 1800 block of Morse Avenue. Investigators with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said a man was staying at the apartment where the child lives with his mother when the alleged attack occurred.

The toddler's mother was in the shower and heard the commotion. She then raced to save her baby -- taking the child into a back room and locking the door.

Deputies who responded to the scene reportedly had to break down the front door to the apartment.

The suspect, Johnroy Aguilar, 26, was arrested on attempted homicide charges. He allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab the child.

"We do believe it was a malicious act, we do believe it was on purpose," said sheriff spokesperson Lisa Bowman.

The toddler is listed in fair condition and is expected to recover.

Aguilar and his family shared the apartment with the victim and his mother, according to the sheriff's department, but this is the first time Aguilar has acted out violently against the child.
