Thieves Hit Elk Grove, Roseville Walgreens Stores In Search Of Prescription Meds
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A rash of Walgreens robberies from Roseville to Elk Grove all have one thing in common—the criminals are demanding prescription drugs.
The latest robbery took place on Monday night in Roseville on Foothills Boulevard. Police say two men wearing hoodies pointed guns at terrified pharmacists demanding drugs.
The Walgreens on Laguna and Franklin boulevards in Elk Grove has been hit twice this year, including Friday night when officers say two men walked directly to the pharmacy and went to work.
"Jumped over the counter and confronted two pharmacists working there," said Elk Grove Police spokesman Chris Trimm.
With no weapons seen, he says they physically forced the pharmacists into a corner and demanded prescription medications.
Police say two men, possibly in their teens or early 20s and wearing hooded sweat jackets, snatched the drugs and got away.
They fit a similar description as men caught on surveillance video in Roseville on Monday night. The difference, though, is the men were armed with handguns in the Roseville case.
"I don't know if they are related but it certainly something we're looking into," Trimm said.
The suspects never demanded cash.
"Typically, the suspects are looking for anything prescription drug medication based. It could be pain killers. It could be codeine. Anything available though a prescription through a pharmacist," he said.
