Teen Struck By Suspected DUI Driver In Antelope May Be Paralyzed
ANTELOPE (CBS13) — The suspect accused of hitting a teenager while evading police in Antelope made his first court appearance on felony DUI charges on Thursday.
Jermain Williams, 32, of Carmichael did not enter a plea.
The crash left Daniel Comer, 13, with multiple broken bones and possibly permanently paralyzed.
Billy Cooley heard the crash that wrecked his parked cars and sent his grandson flying through the air.
"He was hit from this point and landed 50 feet over in the other peoples yard with my black iron fence on top of him with his legs going in different directions," he said.
It all started when a California Highway Patrol sergeant pulled over Williams. Officers say Williams took off in his vehicle and led the CHP on a chase with speeds of up to 60 mph through the streets of Antelope.
Daniel and his mother had just pulled up to the house, and Daniel had gotten out of the car and was standing on the sidewalk when he was hit.
CHP officers caught up with Williams about a block from the home.
Now Comer is left fighting for his life, but doctors are hopeful.
Williams' bail was raised to $500,000. He's due back in court on Monday.
