Teen Convicted Of First-Degree Murder In Shooting At Business That Left Woman Dead
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A 19-year-old who was arrested in the shooting and killing of a woman last year has been convicted of first-degree murder.
David Alberto Romero was convicted by a jury Tuesday for the murder of Thu Lan Tran with the special circumstance that he killed Tran during the course of a robbery. The jury also found Romero used a gun during the incident, according to a statement from the Sacramento County Superior Court.
On June 27, 2014 Romero went into a security business along the 5600 block of 28th Street in Sacramento where Thu Lan Tran, 49, was working as the office manager. He shot her in the head behind her ear and left with her laptop bag containing cash, paychecks and checkbooks.

The owner of a nearby shop saw Romero leaving with the bag and went to the businesses to investigate. There, he found Tran lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He got into his car and followed Romero as Romero drove away. He called 911 and gave dispatchers a partial license plate.
Police tracked the Romero down to his apartment near 32nd and X streets. There they found items that were taken during the robbery. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on a murder charge.
Romero faces a maximum potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing is set for June 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
