Swatting incident, not active shooter, under investigation at Fairfield school, police say
FAIRFIELD – An investigation occurred at a high school in Fairfield on Friday morning for an apparent swatting incident.
The Fairfield Police Department said dispatchers received a report from an unknown caller just before 8:30 a.m. who said an individual on the Vanden High School campus had a gun.
Fairfield police placed Vanden High and two neighboring schools on lockdown while investigating the situation. Officers cleared the school and determined the situation was most likely the result of swatting.
Swatting incidents typically involve someone calling 911 over a fake critical situation, prompting a large police response to the scene.
"At no time was there an active shooter situation, nor any credible threat to students or staff," Fairfield police said in an update to social media.
The lockdown was lifted at around 9:45 p.m.
Fairfield police questioned multiple students during their investigation, but no one was detained.
