Man, 57, dies in Sutter County crash into irrigation canal

CBS News Sacramento

SUTTER COUNTY – A man has died after the pickup truck he was driving crashed into an irrigation canal in rural southern Sutter County Wednesday morning.

California Highway Patrol says they were called to the scene near Cranmore and Pelger roads a little after 8 a.m. to investigate a possible crash after a passerby noticed there was an overturned pickup off the road.

At the scene, officers found that a Ford F-250 had crashed into an irrigation canal. The truck was submerged in about five feet of water, officers say.

The driver, a 57-year-old man, was pulled out. He was unresponsive and soon pronounced dead, CHP says. No other passengers were in the vehicle.

Authorities have not released the name of the man who died.

Investigators say they don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
