Suspected Fentanyl Overdose Deaths In Sacramento Area Reach 12

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Health officials are reporting another death from a suspected fentanyl overdose in Sacramento County.

The newest case was actually a death previously thought to be unrelated to the string of fentanyl overdoses that have hit the area. However, according to the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services, toxicology results found the death to be opioid-related.

With the death, a total of 12 people in the Sacramento area, 11 in Sacramento County and 1 in Yolo County, have died from suspected fentanyl overdoses. A total of 52 overdose cases, including the deaths, are being investigated.

Health officials advise people to avoid taking pills not prescribed by a doctor or pharmacy.
