Deputy Shoots Suspect At Storage Facility In Rancho Cordova

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - A suspect who allegedly threatened to shoot deputies was critically injured after being shot by a deputy at a Rancho Cordova business on Friday.

Around 2:30 p.m., detectives followed a tip that a suspect wanted on felony warrants was at a storage facility in the 2600 block of Sunrise Boulevard. They had been searching for the suspect for several days, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman, Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

"He had a couple of outstanding felony warrants. One was for burglary, felony possession of a firearm as well as grand theft. And the other one was for violation of his post-release community supervision," said Turnbull.

Deputies on the scene say they saw a vehicle associated with the suspect; and as they approached the man, he allegedly jumped out of the passenger's side of the car with a handgun and pointed it at the deputy, who shot the suspect.

"The suspect then ran inside one of the storage units where they finally got him into custody," said Turnbull.

Deputies conducted live-saving measures on the suspect who was transported to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

No deputies were hurt in the incident.

The shooting remains under investigation.
