Suspect Shot By Sac Sheriff Deputy After He Fired Round At Bystanders

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) – Authorities are investigating an deputy-involved shooting in Sacramento County early Friday afternoon.

The scene is near Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard.

A suspect - believed to be a man in his 20s - was shot by a deputy, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Lisa Bowman says. The man had reportedly shot at bystanders while being chased by deputies.

Deputies had originally responded to the scene around 12:41 p.m. after a woman called authorities to report she was being followed around and harassed by a man in the area.

Bowman says the suspect took off running across a large parking lot once deputies showed up. It was during that chase when deputies say he fired off the round at bystanders.

A deputy then shot the suspect while he was in an open field south of the Rite Aid in the area.

It is unclear if any of the bystanders were hurt.

The suspect was reportedly awake and talking when he was loaded into an ambulance, Bowman says.
