Super Bowl 50 Golden Team Announced
In ten days Super Bowl 50 will begin. In the meantime, expect lists. Expect lots and lots of lists about anything. One such list came out earlier today as the NFL released their Super Bowl 50 Golden Team. These are the best players who have ever played in the Super Bowl. It isn't necessarily the best players ever, but the people who have performed the best in the games.
With that said, many of the names on the list are legends who won't surprise you. Joe Montana, Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice all made the cut.
For the Raiders, three players made the list. Ray Guy (7X Pro Bowler & 3 Super Bowls), Gene Upshaw (6X Pro Bowler & 2 Super Bowls) and Art Shell (8X Pro Bowler & 3 Super Bowls) made the list.
Maybe you think that Tom Brady or Ray Lewis deserved to make the cut but you can't deny that this list is lacking in star power at all.
A total of 22 Hall of Famers made the list: Larry Allen, Mel Blount, Joe Greene, Forrest Gregg, Ray Guy, Charles Haley, Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, Ronnie Lott, Joe Montana, Chuck Noll, Jerry Rice, Deion Sanders, Art Shell, Emmitt Smith, Lynn Swann, Lawrence Taylor, Gene Upshaw, Mike Webster, Randy White and Reggie White.
Three AP MVP's made the list: Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith and Lawrence Taylor
The Steelers were represented the most with eight: Mel Blount, Joe Greene, Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, Chuck Noll, Lynn Swann and Mike Webster.
Adam Vinatieri is the only unanimous selection and also the only active player on the list. Check out the list here.
