State Water Officials Propose $500 Billion In Future Water-Related Projects
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California's top water officials are calling for up to $500 billion in additional spending on water projects in coming decades.
The investment is proposed in a state water plan released Thursday by the state secretary of natural resources and the head of the state's water resources department.
The water plan broadly calls for better coordination on water management among local, state and federal agencies.
It also urges investing $500 billion more on everything from water storage to flood control to conservation. Officials say a new state fee on water users could be one way to pay for that.
The figure dwarfs a $7.5 billion water bond issue going before state voters on Tuesday.
