Starbucks Glitch Meant Free Coffee, Some Stores Shut Down

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A computer glitch allowed thousands of people to get their caffeine fix for free on Friday.

Starbucks' point-of-sale system went down for five hours starting around 4 p.m on Friday, impacting stores across the United States and Canada.

Word spread quickly through social media pretty fast with hashtags like #TheFrappening and #Starpocalypse.

One customer we spoke to thought her complimentary coffee was for a much different reaston.

"I thought it was because I told her about the bathroom," she said. "It wasn't really good and then she was like 'Thank you for telling us. Everything is on the house!' And I said, 'What?!'

Stores should reopen as normal on Saturday.
