Elk Grove resident, 19, suspected of DUI after deadly wrong-way crash near Olivehurst

CBS News Sacramento

SUTTER COUNTY – A wrong-way head-on crash along Highway 70 early Monday morning left one person dead and a DUI suspect under arrest.

California Highway Patrol says, just before 5:30 a.m., a vehicle drove the wrong way on the southbound McGowan Parkway off-ramp -- leading them onto the wrong direction of the freeway.

Soon after, the vehicle crashed into an SUV that was heading southbound.

The driver of that SUV, a 47-year-old Marysville resident, was killed in the crash, CHP says, while a passenger also suffered major injuries.

Officers believe the wrong-way driver, 19-year-old Elk Grove resident Alannah Eastern, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She also suffered major injuries, but CHP noted she'll be facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.

Authorities have not released the name of the Marysville resident killed in the crash.

Southbound Highway 70 was closed through the mid-morning hours due to the investigation.
