Speed Limit On I-80 Through Natomas Lowered Due To Construction, Increase In Accidents

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Officials have lowered the speed limit through the construction zone along Interstate 80 through Natomas from 65 to 55 mph, Caltrans announced Friday.

Caltrans officials say the move aims to improve safety along the work zone between Truxel and Northgate – an area that has seen accidents triple since lane changes began recently. The majority of the incidents were rear-end collisions, according to data from Caltrans.

The "Across the Top" project – which is adding carpool and auxiliary lanes to the Natomas stretch of I-80 – is expected to be completed by 2016.

Officials will reportedly continue to watch and see if any more changes need to made.
