Stockton officer shoots man attempting to stab woman in domestic violence incident, police say
STOCKTON - A Stockton police officer shot a man as he tried to stab a woman in a domestic violence incident Saturday morning, the police department said.
Officers said they received a report of a disturbance involving a man armed with a knife. The caller said that their parents were arguing and the father was going to stab their mother.
The police department said the first officer to arrive at the scene on the 1500 block of E. Eleventh Street around 9 a.m. intervened in an attempted homicide in front of the home. Police said the suspect, who was still armed with a knife, did not comply with commands and attempted to stab the woman again.
This is when police said one of the officers fired their weapon, wounding the suspect and saving the victim.
Officers rendered medical aid to the suspect, a 37-year-old man, and took him to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound. He was listed in critical but stable condition.
The mother was also taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds. She has been released from the hospital.
Five children were not injured and were rescued, according to police.
No officers were injured in the incident. A knife was recovered at the scene.
