Shooting in Arden-Arcade sends man to hospital, investigation underway

Deputies investigating shooting near Arden Fair Mall

ARDEN-ARCADE – A man was taken to the hospital after deputies said he was shot in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento County on Saturday night.

The call came in around 10 p.m. in the area of Howe Avenue and Alta Arden Expressway.

The man was shot near the In-N-Out but was located near the Cheesecake Factory, the sheriff's office said.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, said the victim was in a vehicle with a passenger when they were approached by another vehicle.

"I guess [they] exchanged some words, we're still not really sure what led up to the shooting," Gandhi said.

Gandhi said the suspect shot the victim and drove away.

The victim, an adult male, drove toward the Cheesecake Factory where his car came to a stop.

"The witness testimony is going to help us a lot with what led up to the shooting. What or if there was any dialogue between the two. That's going to be a key thing for us," Gandhi said.

He said the victim is in critical condition and they are now treating this as a homicide investigation.

"The victim is still alive but we're just taking the precaution to take this seriously," Gandhi said.

If you saw or heard anything regarding this incident, you are asked to call the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office at 916-874-5115.
