Mother Of 2 Shot In North Highlands Home Was Fired On From Outside
NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) - A woman has been shot and killed while inside a home in North Highlands.
Around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sacramento County sheriff's deputies received a call reporting gunshots being fired in the 3800 block of Galbrath Drive in North Highlands, which is a residential area. Deputies arrived at the home and found a 23-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. They immediately began lifesaving procedures, and, soon after, paramedics with the Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived and declared the victim dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Homicide detectives believe the shooter was outside of the home when they fired. Detectives have not identified a victim, but neighbors say the she was the mother of two children ages 5 and 1. Both children were in the home during the shooting.
"My neighbor and I were just watching TV and we heard five or six gunshots and knew it was like, right here. It was chilling it was so close," said Michael Woolfe, a neighbor. "Considering I have a four-month-old baby and three other kids, it's pretty chilling."
The identity of the victim has not been released.
