Sheriff's Dept: Man Accused Of Raping Co-Worker Not Behind Series Of I-80 Rapes
SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) — A Sacramento man accused of tying up and sexually assaulting a co-worker at a north Sacramento Subway restaurant is not behind a series of sexual assaults that took place along Interstate 80, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
According to a statement posted on the department's Facebook page, the country crime lab "suggests Kenneth Anderson, arrested on Friday (March 28th) in connection with a violent sexual assault attack on Auburn Boulevard, is not connected to the series."
Anderson, 22, was arrested on Friday by Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies.
CBS13 spoke to a woman who was attacked in September by a man believed to be the Interstate 80 rapist. She has little doubt he's the same man.
"You'll never forget a face like that," she said.
Lisa Bowman, a spokeswoman with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, said it's a "strong possibility" it's the same man, because the sketches of the attacker resemble Anderson.
"There is a striking resemblance between this subject that we have arrested and that series," she said.
The suspect behind the serial rape series is described as a black male adult, between 20-40 years old. He had a shaved head or short afro-style haircut, was clean shaven, has a large build and wears rectangular-shaped glasses.
On the most recent assault in January of 2014, he was driving a red older model, box-type 4-door vehicle.
Investigators say they're following up on over 200 leads in connection to the assaults.
