Second Look: Kaepernick's Socks Appear To Disrespect Police

SANTA CLARA (CBS13) - With Colin Kaepernick under heavy scrutiny over his protest of the national anthem, a closer look at his apparel choice during a practice last month is adding fuel to the fire.

In photos take on Aug. 10 during the 49ers' open practice at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, it appears that Kaepernick is wearing socks depicting police as pigs.

This was well before news broke of Kaepernick's protest of the national anthem on Aug. 26.

In case there is any question about what the socks actually depict, the socks' maker calls the product "pig cop" on their website.

Late Thursday morning, Kaepernick addressed the growing controversy over the socks by releasing a statement on his Instagram page:

Niner head coach Chip Kelly has said he plans on playing Kaepernick in Thursday's preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. Kelly has reiterated that Kaepernick has a right to express himself.

Kaepernick has stated his intention to sit out the anthem again.
