Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Deflects Deflategate Questions During UOP Visit
STOCKTON (CBS13) — Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll made a trip back to his old University of the Pacific campus on Wednesday, sharing some of his coaching secrets to success amid the NFL controversy over cheating.
Carroll came here to talk about Tiger pride. He gave each of the student-athletes and coaches he talked to an autographed copy of his book on how to play like a champion. and folks here were pumped up. Only Carroll seemed deflated, when CBS13's Steve Large started to ask about those New England Patriots footballs.
The alum and former coach made his stop back in Stockton as a superstar, wanting to inspire a new generation of UOP athletes to be their best.
His message to do things right comes days after the NFL punished the Patriots for doing it wrong. Carroll sidestepped directly attacking the Patriots team that beat in the Super Bowl.
"The league's doing what they have to do. they're handling it the best way they can, and an unusual situation," he said.
He called deflategate a speck on his radar in a league with a busy front office.
"I think it's important," he said. "There's a lot of issues ahead right now, socially, and there's another one. where almost every few days something else pops up."
With an opportunity to pounce on a rival, Carroll didn't. UOP students left with that dose of Carroll's winning formula. In the face of an NFL cheating scandal, he challenged students to do better.
