Search For Shooter In Midtown Homicide Continues
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A deadly shooting in midtown Sacramento early Sunday morning has left family of the victim mourning and locals alarmed by the violence.
The victim's family has identified him as 36-year-old Will Murti.
Friends and family held a vigil Sunday evening near the corner of 20th and P streets, where Murti died.
"I'm just in disbelief," said Angie Morales, who had just spoken to her cousin, Will Murti, hours before he was shot and killed.
Family and friends gathered where Murti was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
A memorial of flowers and candles replace the very spot where he died.
"He made mistakes in the past you know, served his time, and he's out putting his life together and that's what I was doing yesterday with him," recalled Morales.
Investigators are now searching for clues in this popular section of midtown Sacramento, where bars, businesses and homes mix together.
Sacramento police don't know what led up to the shooting, and say Murti was last seen inside The Old Tavern Bar and Grill before he was shot.
Austin Cordaway is a regular at The Old Tavern, and says hearing about a homicide is alarming.
"This place is really social and friendly, and there's not much violence. This is very out of the ordinary for the area," said Cordaway.
A popular Sacramento destination is now disrupted by a homicide, and police are left to put the missing pieces together.
"I think more than anything my family just wants answers."
Sacramento police are offering a one-thousand dollar reward for any information leading up to the arrest of the suspect or suspects who shot and killed Will Murti.
