School Bus Driver Killed In Yuba County Crash; No One Else On Board
YUBA COUNTY (CBS13) – A school bus driver was killed after she crashed her bus into an embankment near Oregon House late Friday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the bus was heading east along Marysville Road when, west of Frenchtown Dobbins Road, the right side tires of the vehicle left the roadway. The driver apparently tried to correct, but this caused the bus to cross over into the westbound lanes.
The bus then crashed into a tree and fence. It wasn't until the bus came into contact with a second tree that the vehicle stopped.
Investigators do not know why the right side tires of the bus left the roadway. Drugs or alcohol do not look to be a factor in the crash.
The bus driver, who has only been identified as a 60-year-old Yuba City resident, was wearing a seatbelt but died as a result of the crash.
No one else was on board of the bus at the time, CHP says. The bus was on its way to Shady Creek Outdoor School to pick up students, however.
