San Joaquin County Sheriff's K-9 Stabbed During Search

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A San Joaquin County sheriff's K-9 is recovering from a serious stab wound it received during a suspect search in Stockton.

Deputies were called to the 2300 block of Lindsay Street on Wednesday morning to arrest a man wanted on outstanding felony warrants. When deputies arrived at the home where the suspect was believed to be hiding, the homeowner told deputies the suspect was hiding in a bedroom. Deputies went to the bedroom and found the suspect had left the room through a crawlspace in the floor.

Deputies told the suspect they were sending in the K-9 if he did not come out. They sent in the K-9, named "Hakoon", and the suspect warned he would stab it unless it was called off. Deputies called Hakoon back, and when it returned, had a gash in its neck and was bleeding badly.

Hakoon was taken to a nearby veterinary hospital where it underwent surgery and received a blood transfusion.

The surgery was successful, and Hakoon was sent home with its handler.

Forty-four-year-old Joe Eduard Bindi was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp on various charges, including causing serious injury to a law enforcement animal and resisting arrest. He is not eligible for bail.
