CHP officer shoots pedestrian during struggle on Interstate 280

CHP are investigating an officer-involved shooting of a pedestrian in San Francisco that shut down southbound Interstate 280 at Mariposa Street in the midst of a wet and stormy commute, according to authorities.

CHP said officers were sent to southbound Interstate 280, south of Mariposa Street, for reports of a pedestrian around 4:30 p.m.

An officer arrived at the scene, and CHP said a struggle ensued between the officer and pedestrian. The officer then shot the pedestrian.

According to the CHP, a knife was later found at the scene, and investigators suspect the pedestrian had been in possession of it.

The suspect was shot, and they are expected to survive.

Video showed a group of six CHP vehicles at the scene involving two cars that may have been in a collision at the side of the freeway. There was also a third civilian vehicle involved.

The roadways were shut down as a result of the shooting and were reopened around 9:20 p.m.
